To spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, the Narcotics Control Bureau in association with Chandigarh Police organised a walkathon at Sukhna Lake on Wednesday. Senior officials of the NCB and Chandigarh Police spoke on the issue emphasizing the need to get rid of the drug menace in the city.

Several residents, mostly clad in white, participated in the walkathon. Their T-shirts flashed the slogan 'Drug-free India'. They also took a pledge against drug abuse.

Chandigarh DGP Surendra Singh Yadav, who participated in the event, said that the NCB and Chandigarh Police organised the walkathon to bridge the gap between the law enforcement agencies and the youth of the city.

"NCB and Chandigarh Police have organised a walkathon to bridge the gap with our youth. The aim was to raise awareness of the ill effects of drugs. In addition, the investigative agencies should have an interface with the public and civil agencies. More interface leads to increased responsibility," Yadav told ANI.

He said that the police and the NCB will double down their effort to curb the drug menace in the city.

"We will increase our actions against drug peddlers to free Chandigarh of drug menace. Beat officers and personnel from the local police stations interact with students and raise awareness of the issue. We will take action swiftly on the information getting from the media and other sources," he said.
