Celebrated danseuse and Padma Bhushan recipient Mrinalini Sarabhai passed away on Thursday morning in Ahmedabad. She was 97.
Her daughter danseuse and activist, Mallika Sarabhai, announced on Facebook, "My mother Mrinalini Sarabhai has just left for her eternal dance"

Born in Kerala, Mrinalini was trained in Bharatnatyam and Kathakali. She was educated at Shantiniketan under the guidance of Rabindranath Tagore.
Mrinalini has received many distinguished awards and citations in recognitions of her contribution to art. Besides choreographing more than three hundred dance dramas, she has also written many novels, poetry, plays and stories for children.
She is the founder of the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts which imparts training in dance, drama, music and puppetry in Ahmedabad.
Mrinalini married well known Indian physicist Vikram Sarabhai who is considered to be the Father of the Indian Space Program in 1942. She is survived by her son, Kartikeya, founder of Centre of Environment Education (CEE) and daughter Mallika who too went on to attain fame in dance and theatre.
During her lifetime, she received a number of national civilian awards, including the Padma Bhushan in 1992 and the Padma Shri in 1965.
