The government on Tuesday decided to cancel the CBSE Class 12 Board Exams amid the continuing Covid-19 pandemic across the country with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that the decision has been taken in the interest of students and the anxiety among students, parents and teachers must be put to an end.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Modi in which it was decided that the CBSE will take steps to compile the results of Class 12 students as per a well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.
"In view of uncertain conditions due to Covid-19 and feedback obtained from stakeholders, it has been decided that Class 12 Board Exams would not be held this year. CBSE to take steps to compile results of students as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner," he said.

"Anxiety among students, parents, teachers must end. Students should not be forced to appear for exams in such stressful situation," he added.

In the meeting it was also decided that like last year, in case some students desire to take the exams, such an option would be provided to them by CBSE, as and when the situation becomes conducive.
Reacting to the PM's decision, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his "relief" and said that "all of us were worried very worried about the health of our children."
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also congratulated the students of Class 12 and wished for their "bright future ahead".
The meeting was attended by Union Ministers of Home, Defence, Finance, Commerce, Information & Broadcasting, Petroleum and Women & Child Development Ministries and Principal Secretary to PM, Cabinet Secretary and Secretaries of School Education & Higher Education Departments & other officials.
