The CBI has moved the Supreme Court challenging a Calcutta High Court order allowing house arrest of four leaders, including three from the TMC, in the Narada bribery case.

On May 21, the HC ordered shifting of two West Bengal ministers, an MLA and a former Kolkata mayor to house arrest from jail. A division bench differed on the issue of recalling the stay on bail to them. It had decided to refer the matter to a larger bench of five judges. The CBI challenged the order of house arrest and reference of the matter to a larger bench.

The five-judge HC bench took up hearing in the case, refusing the CBI's prayer to adjourn the matter. Representing the CBI, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta prayed before the HC bench to adjourn hearing in the case, as the investigating agency has filed a special leave petition before the SC.

The five-judge bench of the HC, however, decided to commence hearing since the SLP is yet to be listed for hearing before the SC.
