A 'hundi' broker was robbed of Rs 10 lakh at his residence at gunpoint at the Rajapeth locality today morning, according to a complaint lodged at the Rajapeth police station


Amravati: A 'hundi' broker was robbed of Rs 10 lakh at his residence at gunpoint at the Rajapeth locality today morning, according to a complaint lodged at the Rajapeth police station.

Top police officers visit the spot of the crime while a dog squad and fingerprint experts were also summoned but to no avail.

Real estate businessman and 'hundi' broker Rajendra Gopikisan Kalantri's (52) bungalow is located at 100 metres' distance from the Rajapeth police station.

Around 8 am, an unidentified youth in the age group of 35 years, dressed in all black, with his face covered with a black scarf entered the bungalow from the open rear door, when Kalantri was fast asleep in his bedroom.

According Kalantri's complaint, the youth woke him up, put a gun to to his ear and asked him to part with cash. The Hindi-speaking thief threatened him with dire consequences if he dared to inform the police.

Kalantri gave him Rs 10 lakh, after which the robber escaped.

After Kalantri's complaint, Rajapeth police inspector S S Bhagat and Assistant Commissioner Milind Patil reached the spot.

Though Kalantri's nine-room bungalow had closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in every room, all CCTV cameras were switched off at the time of incident. The dog squad and fingerprint experts too could not give any clue to the police.

The Rajapeth police has registered an offence under Section 92 of the Indian Penal Code along with Sections 3 and Section 25 of the Arms Act against unidentified accused.

The incident has posed a challenge before independent police squad constituted by C P Rajkumar Whatkar following directives of Director General of Police Sanjeev Dayal on July 1.
