Tapas Roy, the BJP candidate for the Kolkata-Uttar Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against Trinamool Congress candidate Sudip Bandopadhyay. Roy accuses Bandopadhyay of operating his party office within a renowned school located in the constituency.
Roy submitted the complaint on Saturday at the office of West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), urging the EC to address the issue. He alleges that Bandopadhyay has unlawfully occupied a room within the school premises and is conducting election-related activities from there, reported IANS.
According to the IANS report, as the school will serve as a polling station on election day (June 1), Roy contends that a political party's office cannot be allowed to function within its premises. He has requested the EC to relocate the Trinamool Congress party office to a different location until the election process concludes.
Additionally, Roy has called for the demolition of any illegal constructions carried out under Bandopadhyay's influence within the school premises, the report added.
