Ahead of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I-N-D-I-A) bloc meeting, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar on Wednesday said that she would want Delhi Chief Minister and party convenor Arvind Kejriwal to be the alliance's prime ministerial candidate.

Speaking to news agency ANI on Wednesday, Kakkkar said that AAP convenor has been highlighting issues plaguing public and that he has emerged as credible challenger to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hold on India's highest office.

"If you ask me, I would want Arvind Kejriwal to be the Prime Ministerial candidate (of the Opposition alliance). Be it the PM's academic records or qualifications or any other issue, Arvind Kejriwal has been putting across his views boldly on myriad subjects," Kakkar told ANI.

Kakkar's remark could steer the Opposition boat in rough waters ahead of Mumbai meeting which will kick off later on August 30 and carry over into Thursday. The AAP leader though, said I-N-D-I-A was working to take the nation in a new direction.

She also claimed that national capital has "lowest" inflation even as the prices of essential commodities and food items are rising.

Highlighting AAP government's achievements, she told ANI, "Our government provides free water, free education, free electricity, free bus rides for women, and free pilgrimage for the elderly. And, yet we presented a surplus budget. He (Kejriwal) raises people's issues and has emerged as a challenger (to PM Narendra Modi)."

INDIA bloc to meet in Mumbai

Over 20 political parties will likely participate in third meeting of the newly-formed opposition alliance in Mumbai. A joint meeting will be held by I-N-D-I-A bloc on September 1 in Mumbai and the meeting will see discussions on their strategies ahead of the upcoming state polls and the General assembly elections next year. The logo of the Opposition alliance is also likely to be unveiled during the two-day meeting.

Congress and 25 other parties came together against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre in June this year and the inaugural meeting was convened by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in Patna on June 23 and the subsequent meeting was hosted in Congress-ruled Karnataka on July 17-18.
