Following the cancellation of the UGC-NET 2024 exam, the Congress party harshly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, claiming that it is incapable of conducting examinations free of leaks and fraud.
Congress national secretary Jairam Ramesh slammed the cancellation, pointing out that the Modi government yearly holds 'Pareeksha pe Charcha' as a spectacle while failing to assure exam integrity. He cast severe doubts on the National Testing Agency's reliability and expressed worries about the NEET UG 2024 Examination's integrity, reported PTI.
According to the report, Ramesh further accused the government of undermining India's education system, citing problems with the CUET and stating that organisations such as NCERT, UGC, and CBSE have lost professionalism under Modi's leadership. He attacked the New Education Policy of 2020, claiming that it prioritises the Nagpur agenda over planning for India's educational future.
"Every year the non-biological PM conducts a grand tamasha of what he calls 'Pareeksha pe Charcha', yet, his government cannot even conduct an examination without leaks and frauds. The NEET-UG 2024 Examination faces very serious questions that even the Education Minister has been forced to acknowledge. The integrity of the National Testing Agency (NTA) is under severe doubt," he said.

Ramesh, per the PTI report, further said, "Now the UGC-NET conducted just the day before yesterday has been cancelled last night. In fact, the government has been ruinous for India's education system with the CUET (Common University Entrance Test) making a complete mockery of Class XII exams. The professionalism of NCERT, UGC, and CBSE has been destroyed."
"The New Education Policy of 2020, rather than preparing India's education system for the future, only serves as the Nagpur Education Policy 2020. This is the legacy of the MA in Entire Political Science. Will he ever 'Leak pe Speak'," Ramesh said.
Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also criticised the Modi government, calling it a "paper leak government" and demanding accountability for exam cancellations.
