Villagers wade through a flooded area following rains in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal in Assam/ PTI
In response to the heavy floods in Assam's Barak Valley, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed an additional team to the area. The team was flown from Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport to Silchar Airport in Cachar district.
This new team will supplement the NDRF units that are currently in the area, with the goal of providing prompt help and support to mitigate the impact of floods. The first battalion of the NDRF, based in Patgaon, Guwahati, has been performing frequent flood rescue operations across Assam, collaborating closely with district and state authorities, reported ANI.
According to the report, six people, including two children, have died as a result of the recent floods, which were compounded by Cyclone Remal in the previous 24 hours. The overall situation is terrible, with nearly 3.50 lakh people across 11 districts, including over 78,000 children.
Several organisations, including the NDRF, SDRF, Police, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), and municipal government, are actively involved in rescue efforts. On Friday, rescue workers were able to save 615 people from flood-damaged neighbourhoods.

One notable rescue effort occurred in Kandhulimari and Baliram Pathar villages in Doboka and Hojai, rescuing 149 people, including 47 children and one pregnant lady, the report added.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), six individuals, including two children, drowned during the last 24 hours. Three deaths were recorded in the Cachar district, two in Hailakandi, and one in Karbi Anglong West.
The floods have devastated various districts, including Cachar (1.20 lakh people affected), Nagaon (78,756 people), Hojai (77,030 people), Karimganj (52,684 people), and Hailakandi (10,165 people). A total of 560 communities from 25 revenue circles in various regions remain inundated, the report further stated.
Several rivers, including Kopili, Barak, Katakhal, and Kushiyara, are overflowing due to heavy rains. The administration has established 187 relief camps and distribution facilities, accommodating 68,600 people, the report stated.
Per the ANI report, the NDRF remains committed to guaranteeing the safety and well-being of flood-affected communities and is equipped and ready to tackle the situation with efficiency and dedication.
