Baseless rumours of Priyanka Gandhi being considered for the post of Prime Minister made her a surprise trending topic. Rao V tweeted: ‘When you see someone talk about Priyanka as PM, you realize how much slave mentality has seeped into Indian minds.' Ashutosh Deshpande added: ‘Priyanka for PM? I will migrate to a foreign country.' A certain Kaveri was more positive: ‘I do like Priyanka a lot, but she has to prove her credentials as an administrator before being thought of as a future leader.' And from Priti Gandhi: ‘Some fool suggested Priyanka as PM and we on Twitter are being even bigger fools to make her a trending topic!'

Another loss
The death of ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan prompted an outpouring of tweets. Udit Kulshrestha, for instance, had this to say: ‘RIP Hassan Saab. You played everyday in my home.' Tahir Imran Mian described him as ‘one of the singers who marked the age we live in with his distinctive style and way.' Omar R Quraishi added: ‘His death shows that a lot more binds India and Pakistan than many of us would like to admit.' There was also this from MS Narain: ‘With all due respect, I don't understand how the death of an 85-year-old can be shocking.'

Bhai, bhai?
Eight Chinese nationals were arrested on charges of visa violation in Himachal Pradesh, prompting tweets such as this one from Stereotypewriter: ‘Give them Indian citizenship and include them in the table-tennis team if we are serious about winning Olympic medals.' Someone using the handle Don't Angry Me added: ‘That translates to at least eight fewer gold medals for China.' And from Vaibhav Vishal: ‘Feed them Gobhi Manchurian. They will never set foot in India again.'

The last word
From journalist Barkha Dutt: ‘Dreadful tokenism with Pratibha Patil. Resent especially that the choice was made in the name of us women. Spare us this time!'
