People continue to use space under 11 flyovers as parking lots despite MSRDC issuing prohibitory orders some two months ago

Despite the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) issuing prohibitory orders against parking vehicles under its 11 flyovers in the city some two months ago, people continue to park under the flyovers without any worry.

In the public notice, the MSRDC made it clear that the vehicles which were not removed would be confiscated. The notice was in accordance with the Bombay High Court's directive.

MSRDC Managing Director Bipin Srimali said, "The process of removing cars parked under the MSRDC flyovers is in progress and we have already removed them from under seven to eight flyovers. In the coming days, we will make sure that the space below all 11 flyovers is cleared."

In 2010, despite a GR prohibiting parking under the flyover, the MSRDC called for bids to operate pay and park facilities.

When this correspondent visited the Aarey Milk Colony flyover on Thursday, it was observed that while some portion under the flyover was cleared, cars wrecked in accidents were still lying there.

A similar scenario was witnessed at the Cadbury Junction Flyover on the Eastern Express Highway in Thane.

An MSRDC official said that all the cars and motorcycles would be removed at the earliest and the space used for parking under all the flyovers would be beautified.
