Nashik: Two farmers allegedly committed suicide over loan burden in drought-affected Chandvad taluka of the district, police said on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Rambhau Kondaji Vakte (36), a resident of Vadner Bhairav village and Devidas Bhausaheb Chavan (38), a resident of Hirapur village, police said.
Vakte consumed poison after eating dinner at his residence on Wednesday night and died in a hospital during treatment, they said, adding that he was under debt of Rs 8 lakh.
On the other hand, Chavan died in Nashik civil hospital, where he was admitted on May 17 after he had consumed poison, they said.
The farmers were distraught over water scarcity, unseasonal rainfall and debt burden, they said. A case of accidental death was registered, police said, adding further investigation is on.
