On Friday, 20 year-old Harsh Vinod Mangtani, a student of CHM College, Ulhasnagar, posted this message minutes before he jumped off the fourth floor of a hotel in Silvasa, Gujarat during an industrial visit. This message has got 80 reactions from grieving friends since then. The reason for such a drastic step was a cigarette, which his teacher found with Mangtani and notified the issue to his father.
Around 11.30 pm, a group of students from CHM College in Ulhasnagar had gone on an industrial visit to Silvasa, along with four professors. The group was put up at Khanvil Hotel, with five students in each room. According to Rohit Vaidya, station house officer (SHO), Khanvil police station, one of the teachers conducted an inspection later in the night. "On finding a cigarette with Mangtani, he probed whether his father was aware about his smoking," said Vidya, who then rang up Mangtani's father and informed about the incident. "His father denied knowing anything about his son's habit, but asked the professor to keep a watch on Mangtani. He also requested the teacher to stay with him through the night. The teacher did not sense any such urgency and left Mangtani to sleep with the other four students," said Vaidya.
Mangatani jumped from the balcony soon after and died on the spot. "We have registered a case of suicide. We have handed over the body to his parents after the postmortem. The matter is being investigated," said Vaidya
In spite of repeated attempts, Bhavna Motwani, principal of CHM College, remained unavailable for comment. u00a0
