As many as five people suffered injuries, one of them critically, when a tempo was hit by a speeding truck from behind in Bawana area of outer Delhi late Wednesday night.
The police said the incident occurred at 11:30 when a tempo carrying passengers illegally was hit by a truck on the main road in Bawana near Puth Khurd village.
"All the injured have been shifted to Maharaja Harish Chander Hospital in Narela. The truck driver managed to flee from the scene," police said.
The truck has not been identified, as there was no eyewitness to the incident. Most of the passengers are industrial labour, who were returning home from Bawana industrial area.
While four injured were discharged from the hospital after first-aid, one of them has serious injuries. The police have registered a case against the yet unidentified truck driver and have launched a manhunt to nab the culprit.
The police said in the recent past there has been a rise in such hit and run cases in the area mostly by truck drivers.
