Tributes to Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was the highlight of the 60th Republic Day celebrations in Bangalore.
The braveheart, who died during the rescue operations at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, was also awarded the Ashok Chakra posthumously in New Delhi.u00a0
As the Major's parents received the award in New Delhi, Bangaloreans gathered at Manekshaw Parade Ground and paid their tributes to Sandeep.

"He is our pride. We selected the song as it describes Sandeep's life," said Arun, a performer.
Students also paid tribute to army and police officials, including assistant sub-inspector Tukaram Omble, Havaldar Gajendra Bisht of NSG, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar.
"The show doesn't end here," said Pawan Kumar, a student who played a commando's role. "We will follow in his footsteps and serve the nation."
