MiD DAY breaks traffic rules at least a dozen times in a span of three hours. Finds traffic cops either missing from action or just not interested in taking action against us
With nearly 3,357 deaths reported annually, Pune is fast developing in to the nation's accident capital as it has the highest number of deaths in comparison to its population.
However, these statistics of the National Crime Records Bureau don't seem to bother the traffic department much, as MiD DAY discovered while undertaking an operation to find out how seriously traffic rules are followed in the city.
Here's what we found. Not only were traffic constables missing from busy junctions in the city, but those that were present at signals turned a blind eye as a team from MiD DAY broke traffic rules at least a dozen times right under their nose.
The team rode without a helmet, spoke on the cell phone while driving and jumped traffic signals.
