The director of College of Engineering Pune says that 2,000 students who stay in the hostels have to risk their lives just to make it to college, thanks to the traffic situation
Around 2,000 students who stay in hostels of the College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) at Shivajinagar risk their lives every day, with heavy traffic in the chowk and ongoing work on the flyover making the simple task of reaching their college grounds a perilous task for them.

The stretch has become so dangerous that the college director Dr Anil Sahasrabuddhe on Sunday appealed to the media to highlight the plight of his students.
The college has already approached the traffic police. "The end-semester examinations have started and students have to cross the successive hurdles of first coming out of hostel, crossing over near Kala Niketan, and finally negotiating Sancheti flyover. As many as 2,000 students have to cover this twice a day," said Dr Saharabuddhe in a press note.
CoEP Chief Rector Mahendra Ranjekar said, "To ensure safety of students, we placed round-the-clock security guards, who accompany students with a red flag.
We have approached the traffic police, asking them to give students 15 seconds after every three minutes, so that they can cross over." Ranjekar added that placing speed breakers in both Kala Niketan and Sancheti chowk would definitely help resolve the problem.
