The autorickshaw strike that was to take place Thursday, September 13, across Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan and many other places of the metropolitan region, has been called off.

This was decided after the state government promised auto rickshaw union head Sharad Rao that it will expedite decision on the Hakim Committee report.
"We have called off our dharna. The government has promised to take a decision soon," said Shashank Rao, assistant general secretary, Mumbai Auto Rickshawmen's Union.

Today afternoon, the union had an hour-long meeting with Transport Commissioner VN More and other senior transport department officials.
The department is in the process of studying the report submitted by former bureaucrat PMA Hakim that would determine the formula and process of working out autorickshaw and taxi fares in the future.
With Ganesh festival coming up, the government officials urged autorickshaw drivers not to go ahead with their protest.
Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar from NCP too had a word with Rao's union.u00a0Rao also belongs to NCP.
Sources said they would soon send the report to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who also heads the Transport department.
