Three persons were killed on Thursday and another severely injured when their car rammed into a large container kept alongside a service road on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway near Kasara in the district, police said.
Kasara Police Station inspector Ajay Vasave said the mishap occurred in the wee hours when the driver lost control over the wheels and dashed the four-wheeler into a container that was stationed alongside the service road on the highway.
The victims had hired the car for travelling to Shirdi from Kasara.
The deceased were identified as Kailas Madvi (45), Hanumant Shinghte (35) and Dinkar Bhoir (55), while the driver's identity is yet to be established as he is undergoing treatment at a local hospital, the officer said.
A case under relevant sections of IPC and Motor Vehicles Act has been lodged against the driver in this connection, he said, adding the bodies were sent to Sahapur hospital for postmortem.
