Regular commuters of Kasara-CST double fast suburban train were in for a pleasant surprise on Thursday morning as they got a chance to celebrate New Year's in their compartment while on their way to work.
The robust celebrations included singing, dancing and distributing snacks. A big speaker and microphone was also brought for merriment.
The man behind the celebrations was Jaikishna Hariram Acchpilya, a commuter from Shahad, who along with some of his friends planned the entire event.
Jaikishna told mid-day, "We had ordered Dal Pakwan, a famous Sindhi dish, and cold drinks for more than 60 fellow commuters. We didn't ask anybody to contribute." He added that he and some of his friends chipped in for the train party.
When asked about using a big speaker and microphone for the celebrations, the Shahad resident's face lit up and he said. "It was in my mind right since Diwali to celebrate New Year's Eve with the group of train group with this speaker, as I knew it would double the fun."

The train party which started at Shahad ended at Dadar railway station where most of the commuters, including Jaikishna, got down. Jaikishna, who works at an electronic store in Andheri, revealed that the speaker is kept at a trusted shopkeeper's place in Dadar and will come out again for the return journey.
And so it is that the Jaikishna's New Year celebrations will continue on his return journey on January 1, 2016. "I will take the Dadar-Titwala slow train and we have similar plans but it will be tomorrow as most of my friends have other plans tonight."
