LIBYA, BENGHAZI: An armed man waves his rifle as buildings and cars are engulfed in flames after being set on fire inside the US consulate compound in Benghazi. An armed mob protesting over a film they said offended Islam, attacked the US consulate and set fire to the building, killing US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens.


INDIA: Cartoonist Aseem Trivedi, who was detained on sedition charges for allegedly mocking the national emblem in his cartoons, outside a court in Mumbai. He was released from Arthur Road jail three days later.


PAKISTAN: Pakistani firefighters work at extinguishing a fire that erupted in a garment factory in Karachi, which killed over 200 people.


UNITED STATES: A 3-year-old Great Dane called Zeus (L) from Otsego, Michigan in the US which is featured in the new Guinness World Records 2013 book as the tallest dog ever, measuring 111.8 cm (44 in) from foot to withers, seen here with his owner Denise Doorlag (R). The giant canine who towers 2.2 metres (7 feet 4 inches) on his hind legs, eats an entire 14-kilogram bag of food every day and weighs in at 70.3 kgs.
