Thane Police Commissioner unaware of the building

The comissioner of Thane Police, K P Raghuvanshi, said that he was unaware of the existence of the building, that killed 44 people and injured 59.


The toll in Thursday evening's building collapse has shot up to 44 as rescuers scrambled through the night to save the people feared trapped under the debris.

The toll has now gone up to 44 and 59 injured.

The comissioner of Thane Police, K P Raghuvanshi, said "I am unaware of the building."

The documents of the Building are being checked by the authorities and the police have lodged cases against the developers of the seven-storey building

Officials said that the building was raised within four months, and has been functional since December. So it stood barely four months.

Top police, fire brigade, civic and disaster management officials were present at the scene of the tragedy as relief operations continued.

Kalyan MLA Ramesh Patil wrote a letter to the Chief Minister Chavan and Dhamesh Naik about the incident.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan, Home Minister R R Patil and Ajit Pawar visited the building site.u00a0
