New Delhi: The terrorists who attacked an Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Pathankot were detected by aerial surveillance platforms as soon as they entered the station, an official statement said Friday, adding that the attempt to destroy 'valuable assets' was foiled.
The IAF statement, issued even as the combing operations were on in and around the air base, said the terrorists' plan was "foiled" due to 'effective preparations' and 'coordinated efforts'.
The statement said intelligence inputs had been received of a likely attempt by terrorists to infiltrate into the military installation in the Pathankot area and preparatory actions had been taken to thwart any such attempt.
The Western Air Command chief, Air Marshal S.B. Deo, is on location and personally supervising and coordinating with the Army, NSG and local civil police for exchange of information and operational activities, the statement said.
