Not everything Chinese comes cheap. The ancient wisdom of the Tao, for instance. The principles of blissful living through inaction and free expression are being practiced by people across the globe, because they enhance the understanding of life at its purest, freest best. The school of thought, which encourages Wu Wei, or effortless effort, is all about harmonious co-living. Remember the all-pervasive connections on Pandora in Avatar? Yes, it's about letting nature takes its course when everything seems out of hand. An interactive session by a learned master of the art hopes to make your trip to mysti-city fruitful.

The Tao is about balance in nature and life

The lecture-cum-demonstration, 'Living Tao-Ancient Wisdom for Modern Living', explores the synthesis of East-West wisdom traditions by Tai Ji expert Al Chunliang Huang. By blending well-tested practice based on Taoist eco-philosophy, Neo-Confucian pragmatism and Western positivism, all of which will be explained at the event, Huang will show us ways to sustain optimal personal health and well being, enhance human relationships, balance work and enjoyment of living. Worth a visit, definitely.

What is Taoism?
Tao is a concept found in ancient Chinese philosophy that aims at active and holistic conception of the world. In Taoism, Tao both precedes and encompasses the universe. As with other no dualistic philosophies, all the observable objects in the world u2014 referred to in the Tao Te Ching as 'the named' or 'the ten thousand things' - are considered to be manifestations of Tao, and can only operate within the boundaries of Tao. Tao is, by contrast, often referred to as 'the nameless', because neither it nor its principles can ever be adequately expressed in words. It is conceived, for example, with neither shape nor form, as simultaneously perfectly still and constantly moving, as both larger than the largest thing and smaller than the smallest, because the words that describe shape, movement, size, or other qualities always create dichotomies, and Tao is always a unity. While Tao cannot be expressed, Taoism holds that it can be known, and its principles can be followed. It isn't a religion, but a way of life.
