Bangalore saw three high-profile marriages yesterday. Astrologers think it has to do with a rare celestial phenomenon that promises happiness to the wedded couple

Namma Bengaluru's stars merely followed the sun yesterday. That's why the city saw three biggie weddings on a single day.

The planet Sun (Surya griha), which rules Sunday (Adhipathi), entered sun sign Leo's 'Pubba Nakshatra' yesterday in a rare planetary phenomenon that occurs once in 12 years. The movement occurs on a weekday during the normal cycle.

Starry Eyed: Shankar Bidari's son Vijayendra and Rohini tied their nuptial knots at Palace Grounds

A wedding on this day is believed to bring prosperity, health and wealth to the newly-weds.

And the biggies grabbing the chance were: Infosys' chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy's daughter Akshata who married Rishi Sunak, city police commissioner Shankar M Bidari's son Vijyendra who married Rohini P Bhajibhakare and Narayana Hrudayala's founder Dr Devi Shetty's niece and nephrologist Dr Sudarshan H Ballal's daughter Anupa Shetty who tied the knot with Dr Riyan Shetty.

Astrologers including those from Murthys' family confirm that it was the celestial movement that decided August 30.

"This day is auspicious," said one of the priests who performed the rituals on Saturday. "Though marriages don't normally take place in August, this day was chosen as it comes only once in 12 years and is regarded as auspicious."

Shine like the sun

Other astrologers agree. "The lives of those tying the knot this day will shine like the sun," said Ravi Shankar. "The planetary movement that occurred is very rare and brings good luck."

"The phenomenon is special as Sun enters Leo's Pubba Nakshatra on Sunday, a day ruled by planet Sun itself," said Narasimhamurthy Sharma, another astrologer. "It brings sunshine into the marriage. It also brings health, wealth and prosperity."

Different take

But astrologer Hanumath Rao Sabnis disagrees. "No doubt, the Sun entering Pubba Nakshatra on Sunday is rare and brings good luck," he said.

"But marriages that have occurred today happened when the Sun was in 'Maka Nakshatra'. The Sun entered 'Pubba Nakshatra' only on Sunday night. Hence, the phenomenon may not influence events in the morning and noon. There were better muhurthas in the days ahead."u00a0
