On August 25, a labourer working at NMMC's headquarters, which is under construction at Killa junction, Belapur, died after a fall from the fourth floor. The matter came to the fore only on Thursday, after which Mayor Sagar Naik issued a show cause notice to executive engineer Ajay Sankhe for not reporting the incident.u00a0
JN Sinnerkar, deputy municipal commissioner of NMMC (administration), said, "We have not received information about the accident. Proper action will be
taken after the engineering department submits the report."
Meanwhile, Bhaskar Wankhede, municipal commissioner, NMMC, washed his hands off the issue. "NMMC will not register any complaint for the accident with the police, as the contractor is responsible for the safety measures at the construction site. However, we will take proper action against the concerned engineer if there has been any foul play by not reporting the death of the labourer," said Wankhede.
In spite of repeated calls, Mohan Dagaonkar, city engineer and head of engineering department, NMMC, remained unavailable for comment. u00a0
