Putting an end to the ongoing backdoor admissions controversy at the Sir Parshurambhau (SP) College, for Std XI students, the state on Saturday made it clear that admission would be given based on merit.

And the 77 youngsters, who were trying hard to get enrolled at SP College, would be accommodated in other junior colleges that have vacancies, based on their worth.u00a0

Soon after the state issued the directive on Saturday, process for forming a special table at Abashaheb Garware College by the Centralised Admission Procedure (CAP) on Wednesday commenced.

Deputy Director of the Education Board Suman Shinde, who looks after Std XI CAP, said, "My office received a fax from the state government on Saturday morning, asking to form a table admission procedure for the students who have not taken admission to any of the junior colleges, hoping to bag a seat in SP College."

Asked whether other junior colleges would be willing to accommodate these students, as the first semester has already concluded, Shinde said, "It is difficult for colleges to arrange separate semester exam for these students, but government wants to give the students a last chance to save their academic year. All colleges who admit these students will also think the same." u00a0
