Slumdog Millionaire Simon Beaufoy says the film's title is just a metaphor and in no way an insult to anyone.
"It never occurred to me that I was writing about poverty. It is about people, who have massive spirit and determination. And the title of the film
Slumdog Millionaireu00a0is a fantastic metaphors," said Beaufoy, who adapted the story from Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup's novel Q and A.
Beaufoy said he had no intention of insulting anyone by the title or the story. Certain sections have raised objection to the mention of slumdwellers as dogs. "The title of the film
Slumdog Millionaireu00a0came during my visits to the Mumbai slums. I saw dogs sleeping peacefully in the sunshine with an open eyes watching everything, knowing everything that was going around," he said. "It struck me as a beautiful metaphor for the protagonist of the film, who knows everything and understands everything," said Beaufoy who also wrote Full Monty.
