Close on the heels of the Supreme Court confirming the death sentence on 26/11 Mumbai attack convict Ajmal Kasab, the Shiv Sena today sought immediate intervention of President Pranab Mukherjee to ensure his early execution.
"We seek immediate intervention of your Excellency to ensure that the judgement of the Supreme Court in the case of Mohammed Qasab is given effect to immediately," Shiv Sena Parliamentary party said in a letter to Mukherjee.
The Shiv Sena said it was the considered view of the party that there was no scope of any clemency or pardon in cases where any terrorists were held guilty of waging war against the nation. "The course of justice and execution of the sentence awarded by the Supreme Court should, in such cases, be followed as a matter of course," Sena MPs said in the letter.
