Lucknow: In a significant move, the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure that children of government officials, people's representatives and judicial officials were sent to government schools.
Hearing a petition filed by Umesh Kumar Singh, which were bundled by the high court with many other similar petitions, Justice Sudhir Agarwal directed chief secretary Alok Ranjan to initiate concrete steps to enable the compliance of the court's directives by the beginning of the new session next year.
The judge said this was the only way that the pathetic state of government schools in the state could be improved.
Describing the condition of majority of primary schools in the state as shabby, the court also directed the top bureaucrat to submit a compliance report within the next six months.
