Srinagar: Security forces were on Friday locked in a gun-battle with militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, police said.
A police officer said that the gun-fight was on in Maniga Hajinaka forest area close to the Line of Control.
"An encounter broke out at around 3.45 PM between security forces and militants in forests of Haji Naka in Kupwara district," a police official said.
Army jawan injured
An Army jawan who was today injured in the encounter has been airlifted to an Army hospital in Drugmulla in Kupwara, a police official said.
He said an army jawan was injured in the initial exchange of firing between the two sides.
The operation was in progress when reports last came in, the official said.
