Man duped ofu00a0 Rs 35,000 by duo in police uniform
He handed them his bag filled with cash and other belongings for a security check. And when he opened it some time later, the cash was missing and in its place were scraps of paper.
The victim, Mohammed Mushtaq, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, had come to the Capital on January 2 to book a ticket for Saudi Arab. For that Mushtaq had gone to Saudi Arab airline office located on the second floor of Ansal Bhawan at KG Marg.
As he walked into the building carrying a bag containing Rs 35,000 in cash, he was stopped by two persons in police uniforms. They told him that they needed to check his bag as it was mandatory for all those entering the building, said a police source.
The unsuspecting Mushtaq handed them the bag. "They then took away the bag and replaced the cash with paper cut in size of the currency. By the time Mushtaq realised that his cash was stolen, the duo had vanished. He then approached the police," said a senior police official.
An FIR in this regard was registered at Barakhamba Road police station. Police sources said that conmen impersonating as police personnel are active in New Delhi especially in Mandir Marg area. In past, more than seven similar cases have been reported from this area . However, no arrests have been made in any of the cases so far.
