With a cylinder blast that rattled the Aangjala family at Darshan Park Society near DP Road in Aundh early yesterday morning, the city continued to rock to LPG leakage woes for the second day in a row.
The family had a narrow escape as nobody was injured in the incident. According to Rahul Arkule, "My neighbour Shridhar Aangjala brought an HP gas cylinder around 10.45 am and when he opened the seal, the gas started leaking. He immediately alerted his family and society members. All the residents vacated the society in a minute."
Lucky escape
Arkule added, "But unfortunately, Aangjala switched off the lights while coming out of his flat on the ground floor and the spark led to the blast shattering the windows and destroying the main door."
Arkule called up the fire control room, and two fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot.
Braveheart
Saibaba Jilebar, fire brigade station duty officer at Aundh, reached the spot as soon as he got the message. He entered the flat without fearing for his life and pulled out the leaking cylinder.
Jilebar told MiD DAY, "When I reached the spot the place was covered with smoke and flames, I entered the flat and pulled out the cylinder in order to avert any major tragedy."
On Monday, a cylinder blast had killed a 22-year-old student at Sinhgad Road and seriously injured four others.
