Assailants opened fire on cops while fleeing

Car-borne robbers reportedly opened fire at a police party while they were fleeing after looting a government official's house in northeast Delhi. A senior police officer said that the assailants fled in a white i10 car after robbing the victim of several lakh rupees.

"They struck at the house of D P Aggarwal, who is an official working on the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). Aggarwal's son Vaibhav, who is an IT professional, informed the police about the incident. When cops reached the spot the four assailants were fleeing in their vehicle. Seeing the police they fired at us and managed to give us the slip," said a senior police officer.


Vaibhav Deep said that four robbers who were carrying pistols barged into his house and looted Rs 2 lakh in cash and valuables at gun point.

"The robbers held us hostage and asked us to hand over the valuables or face dire consequences. They made off with Rs 2 lakh cash and jewellery worth several lakhs rupees," said the victim.

The victim said he was too scared to note down the number of the car. Police said they were getting the statements of the victim's relatives. "We are also questioning their neighbours to find out the vehicle number," the police officer said.
