The Pakistani signer is detained for carrying undeclared foreign currency worth Rs 60 lakh
The Revenue Intelligence (RI) officials on Sunday evening recovered over Rs 60 lakh worth of foreign currency from noted Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at Indira Gandhi airport.

Sources said that after performing at an event in the city, the Pakistani singer was to leave for Dubai along with his group when he was stopped by officials from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. "He was carrying a huge amount of foreign currency which he had not declared to the immigration authorities," sources at airport said.
Khan along with his group was then detained by the RI officials and was being questioned to ascertain the source of the money, sources added. The 37-year-old, nephew of Pakistani singing legend Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, was involved in a controversy in July last year too when organisers of a concert in Gurgaon had filed a police complaint against him for his failure to turn up for a show.
Khan has several hit numbers to his credit and has won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer this year for 'Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji' from the movie 'Ishqiya'. An event manager was also arrested along with Khan. Sources said, he had flown into Delhiu00a0 last week.
Diamonds seized
The Income Tax department has alerted its air intelligence units at all airports in the country after it detected unaccounted wealth of Rs 33 crore and seized Rs 8.3 crore worth of diamonds from the IGI airport recently. The department seized about 30 kilograms of gold and Rs three crore cash from air travellers at various airports during the same period.
