University coming up with new admission list adjusting the 27 per cent reserved seats for OBC candidates
The Jawaharlal Nehru University has finally agreed to implement the 27 per cent OBC quota in admission to various courses.
The varsity announced Wednesday that it would come up with a new list adjusting the OBC candidates after the Delhi High Court termed the admission policy of the prestigious institution "flawed" and several OBC students launching a protest demanding a separate admission list.
According to the verdict delivered by court on September 7, the administration must take all responsibility for the denial of admission to OBC students over the last three years "for the adoption of the wrong criterion".
The administration has assured to bring out the fresh lists online on September 18. The protesting students are happy that their 'hard work' has paid.u00a0
"We had been protesting for a very long time now. After the HC declared that the administration was at fault, the varsity took a lot of time in implementing it. The vice-chancellor has never met the students nor has he ever addressed our issues. He doesn't consider us worthy of meeting him," said Vismay, an OBC student at JNU.
"Though the administration has asked us to bring out fresh lists online by Saturday, but we are not very certain as they can go back on their assurance anytime. In case, they fail to keep their word we have planned to take up a victory march in the campus," said Sandeep Singh, JNU student and AISA president.
