Pune landslide: Toll hits 151, rescue ops called off

Eight people were rescued in the seven-day operations, which saw more than 2,000 personnel and 35 ambulances being deployed

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) called off the rescue and relief operations at the landlside-hit Malin village at 7 pm yesterday. NDRF personnel recovered a total of 151 dead bodies and rescued 8 injured persons in the seven-day operation.

NDRF Commandant Alok Awasthi said, "The figure for the total number of dead persons is 151. Out of these, 146 bodies were recovered whole, while body parts - like legs and hands - were recovered of others. Medical teams later confirmed that the body parts were of 5 deceased. Hence, the total count of dead persons till 7 pm on Wednesday is 151."

Malin village's population, according to the 2011 Census, was 704, with 325 females and 379 males. The total number of persons affected due to the landslide are 181, according to district administration officials.

Total number of ambulances used in the operation were 35, with 297 officials from revenue department, 425 from health department, 984 from police department and 371 from NDRF deployed in the Malin and Adivare villages, which are 2 km away from each other.
