Mumbai resident's 35-year-old wife, who is a Pune resident, pours hot oil on him after marital tiff; she was let out on bail; the incident took place on the day of her birthday
Bharat Sheriya
Jaya Sheriya, a 35-year-old woman Pune resident treated her Mumbai-based husband Bharat to some burning love over the weekend. Bharat was visiting Jaya for her birthday and the two spent the whole day shopping and celebrating with some bubbly. However, at the end of the day, the couple had a fight, after which Jaya poured hot oil over Bharat.
Bharat and Jaya first met in a Pune-Mumbai train in 2011. Sometime later, the couple got married. This was supposedly Jaya's second marriage. The incident took place on Saturday around 11.30 pm. Jayant Hanchate, sub-inspector Wanawadi police station said, "Jaya and Bharat had a love marriage. Jaya resides in Pune, where she works as a saleswoman, while her husband Bharat is a law graduate, working as sales executive in a Mumbai-based company. On Saturday, it was Jaya's birthday and he'd come to Pune to celebrate it."

Birthday ends in fight
Hanchate added, "They cut the cake, went shopping and had a party at night. They were both drunk, it seems, and Jaya started fighting with him because she wanted to live with him in Mumbai. During the fight, Bharat went to his bedroom and slept."

"Around 11.30 pm, she went to the kitchen, boiled some cooking oil and poured it on Bharat. He moved out of the house and got admitted in the Sassoon General hospital, from where the case was revealed. He does not have a lot of burns, merely 10 per cent. Jaya has claimed that he used to abuse her and beat her up."
Bharat was discharged from Sassoon Hospital and is presently undergoing treatment in Sion Hospital. Speaking to mid-day, he said, "I had gone to Pune to celebrate my wife's birthday. I do not know what prompted her [to do this], but she poured oil on my body. I have suffered injuries on my chest, stomach and leg. They are deep and this is a brutal incident.
'He is fabricating case'
Speaking to mid-day on the condition of anonymity, Jaya's relative said, "Bharat has been fooling Jaya and using her for her money. He usually turned up when Jaya got her salary and then abused her. It is not Jaya but Bharat who is fabricating the case and he has done it. He has prompted her to take some harsh step so that she gets trapped and their relationship lands in court. Bharat might have done this."
A case was registered on Saturday in Wanwadi police station against wife Jaya under section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code. Jaya was arrested on Sunday and on Monday, she was produced before the court of judicial magistrate (first class), which remanded her in judicial custody. She was later granted bail after furnishing a solvency bond of Rs 15,000 and directed to co-operate with the police in the investigation.
