Pune: A late night party in Balewadi ended on a tragic note as a final year engineering student fell to his death from the 13th floor of a high-rise in the early hours of Monday. According to police sources, the deceased, Amrish Vilas Patil, had been trying to climb a ladder in the flat's balcony in an inebriated state when the 21-year-old lost balance and fell.

Sources said that the deceased, a resident of Elite Estate in Balewadi, had allegedly lied to his parents to attend that party.
Senior inspector Dayanand Dhomne of Chaturshringi police station said, "Amrish, a Sinhgad College of Engineering student, told his parents that he was heading to his friend's place to study. According to members of the housing society where the incident took place, Amrish and four friends had a dinner party, during which alcohol was consumed. One of the friends who attended the party said that while the four of them were watching TV, Amrish went to the balcony. It seems he tried to climb a ladder that was kept there by maintenance workers for some painting work. We are probing to see if any foul play was involved."
