Following the recent attempt to kidnap 12 bar girls, a new security arrangement comprising armed guards to protect bar girls was made mandatory. However, the new arrangement has led to a row with both bar girls and bar owners claiming that they are shelling out the money for the armed guards.

A bar girl who wished to remain anonymous told MiD DAY, "Every day, we easily make between Rs 5,000 and 10,000 on tips. We hand over 50 per cent of it to the management, which spends that on our make-up, transport, accommodation and food. Now, now, we will have to part with extra money for the new security."

'No extra charge'

Sanjay Kochar, president, Live Band Association said, "Armed security is a must while picking up and dropping bar girls. There are more than 5,000 bar girls in the city. The management provides all of them with bodyguards without taking any extra money from them."

Kochar added that the bar owners were following police guidelines strictly.
