Targeted? Pawan Kumar suffered injuries in the head after being beaten by copsu00a0 pic/mid day |
It seems Delhi police personnel resort to muscle flexing at the slightest pretext. On August 30, Pawan Kumar (40), a property dealer was allegedly beaten up by two constables. Pawan had gone to the Shahdara railway station in east Delhi to purchase some tickets.
"I had gone there with my son-in-law to buy some train tickets. We parked our bike close to the ticket counter and went upstairs. Suddenly two constables appeared and started dragging my bike. When I objected they put my bike on a cycle rickshaw and said that they will release it only if I paid 500 rupees.
I refused because as per rules they can only challan me for 100 rupees. I followed them and stopped them. Then I tried to get my bike off the rickshaw. But they pushed me down on the road and started beating me up.
My son-in-law tried to save me but they pushed him down too. They hit me on the head with a blunt object and when I started bleeding they fled from there," said the victim. Pawan went to a local hospital and he got six stitches on his head. He also called the PCR van and complained against the accused constable.
"I went to the police station and complained against both of the cops to the police officers. I have filed a written complain also. But at the moment I entered the police station, one of the accused saw me and threatened me,"Pawan added.
"We have received a complaint about the incident and we are inquiring into the matter. If anyone is found guilty, we will not spare him," said a police officer.
HEAVY-HANDEDThe SHO of the Ambedkar Nagar police station was transferred and a constable was suspended for allegedly detaining and beating a minor for an investigation of a theft case. Last month an employee of a button shop also alleged illegal detention and beating by the police. A probe is on in that case.
