Former president Pranab Mukherjee's memoir âThe Presidential Years' has again landed in a soup with his son and daughter, both Congress members, engaging in a Twitter spat over the publishing of the book.
Pranab's son Abhijeet Mukherjee in a Twitter thread requested publisher, Rupa, to stop the publication of the memoir as well as "motivated excerpts" without his written consent. Daughter, Sharmishtha Mukherjee, on the other hand, requested his brother not to create "unnecessary hurdles".
"Since my father is no more , I being his son want to go through the contents of the final copy of the book before its publication as I believe , had my father been alive today , he too would have done the same," tweeted Abhijeet.

Responding to her brother's tweet, Sharmishtha posted, "The final draft contains my dads' hand written notes & comments that have been strictly adhered to. The views expressed by him are his own & no one should try to stop it from being published for any cheap publicity. That would be the greatest disservice to our departed father."
She also corrected her brother, saying that the book is called âThe Presidential Years' and not âThe Presidential memoirs'.
The memoir had recently been in news for its comments on former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It stated that Singh was preoccupied with saving his coalition during his second stint while Modi was "autocratic" in his first term as Prime Minister.
