New Delhi: In the first ever exercise to overhaul Indian Railways, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday will share his ideas with railway employees, in a session with them. This is the first ever exercise that will involve Indian Railways staff from gangmen level to the Railway Board Chairman, during the three-day Rail Vikas Shivir at Surajkund near the national Capital.
The Shivir is being conducted at the initiative of the Prime Minister, and employees have been sending ideas to a separate cell for the purpose. The exercise will help Railways make the preferred transport in India three times more economically viable, improve non-fare revenues, modernise Indian Railways by using best-in-class technology, move towards near zero fatalities and last but not the least, drive a cultural change within Indian Railways.
The conference will have many sessions and sub-sessions and video screenings, knowledge sessions, presentations, pavilion visits, question & answer sessions, jury meetings, etc.
This is for the first time in the 163 years of Indian Railways that such a brainstorming and planning exercise with multistage and multidimensional dialogue will take place at this large scale. While Modi will address the Shivir through video conference from the PMO on the inaugural session, on the last day on Sunday he will visit and interact with the railway personnel.
