After approving the sewage treatment plant near Watergate Chowk, the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) will now set up a solid waste management plant at its dumping ground in Hadapsar.
Cantonment officials said the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board had asked the PCB to hasten its various environment-friendly projects and officials are now expecting the plant to come up by next year. About five companies have participated in the tendering process. Save Enterprises, Parshava Enterprises, Universal Enterprises, Mayo Vessels and Machines and BVG are the companies who are bidding for the project.
Currently, the PCB manages waste on its 27-acre dumping ground in Hadapsar. PCB receives about 30 to 40 tonnes of waste daily on an average, and the figure is bound to increase in the coming months.u00a0 "The plant will have all the modern facilities to handle solid, electronic, inorganic and organic waste," said Aarti Mahajan, a PCB member.u00a0
Officials said the board CEO had put the presentations on hold as president Major General Ajay Saxena was recovering from an illness. "Presentations are made in the presence of all the board members, office bearers and army officers heading the PCB," said an official requesting anonymity. Saxena is the Commander of the Pune sub-area.
