One more tests positive for swine flu

A 32-year-old Santacruz resident tested positive for H1N1 virus yesterday.


The patient has been admitted to a private hospital and is under observation, the BMC officials said. With the latest addition, the number of H1N1 cases in Mumbai has risen to 17 since March.u00a0On Sunday, two more patients had tested positive for the swine flu virus and are currently undergoing treatment on an OPD-basis.u00a0

‘Like any other flu'
"These are sporadic cases and people should not panic as H1N1 is like any other influenza now," said Dr Mangala Gomare, BMC's epidemiology head.
Dr Abhay Chowdhary, director, Haffkine Institute, said, "Mutations occur on a regular basis in the virus. The fact that the virus is susceptible to drugs is an indication that there is no major mutation. With the rise in H1N1 cases, people need not panic. Only those people who fall in the high risk groups - children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with co-morbid conditions - should be cautious and report to doctors immediately."
