The parked vehicles were a Hero Honda Super Splendor and a Honda Dio; both were also mangled beyond recognition.

Vishal Pawar (22), who was on the Honda Dio, and Harshawardhan Joshi, who was on the Splendor, had been celebrating the latter's birthday and were talking to each other at the time of the accident. While Pawar is from Kothrud and is pursuing an MBA course, Joshi is a law student from MMCC College.

According to an eyewitness, the A-Star was coming from the direction of Senapati Bapat Road and Bawlekar was coming from the opposite direction.

"When they collided, they both spun sideways, hitting the two stationary vehicles," said the eyewitness, who did not wished to be named.u00a0

Bawlekar, Pawar and Joshi were brought to Ratna Hospital on Senapati Bapat Road. Pawar was later taken to Poona Hospital.

Both Pawar and Joshi sustained serious head injuries and leg fractures. Pawar's father Vijay (48), a civil construction contractor, said, "His brain has been injured according to the CT Scan report. Let's hope it is nothing drastic."

Police Inspector Balasaheb Shinde said they had registered the A-Star's number (MH-12-GF-4258) and would soon trace the runaway owner. "The matter is under investigation and nothing can be commented on now," said Shinde.u00a0
