Odd-even back in Delhi: Over 1,300 offenders penalised on day one

New Delhi: Over 1,300 persons were penalised for violating the odd-even car rationing on the day one of its phase-2 implementation in the national capital yesterday. The rules under the scheme are applicable between 8 am and 8 pm, except on Sundays.

While 884 motorists were penalised by Delhi Traffic Police, challans were issued to 427 offenders by the enforcement unit of Delhi Transport department, taking the total figure to 1,311, senior officials said. The
highest number of challans was issued in the southern part of the city, followed by west and central Delhi. About 100 violators were challaned in the Lutyens' zone, officials said.

The first challan of the day was issued at ITO intersection in central Delhi at 9 am. The violator was a Bijnor resident, who was on his way to Uttarakhand. He claimed that he was unaware of the norms, a traffic official
said.
