Procuring higher education for children of Project Affected Persons (PAP) will be quite easy now, as the CIDCO plans to deposit stipend amounts directly into their bank accounts. Till now the housing body used to send the money to the college, and the procedure to get the money was lengthy and time-consuming.
Since 1970s, CIDCO has been giving stipends to the children of PAP to help them get higher education. The amount provided by CIDCO for education varies between Rs 4,000 and Rs 9,000 depending upon the course, and the housing body spends over Rs 25 lakh every year on the same.
A senior official from CIDCO said that soon the housing body would open counters where students can complete the required formalities to open a bank account. As soon as that gets done, money would be sent to their account for this academic year.
"Earlier, the amount was sent to the college. We had to give an application form to the institute, which they would submit to us. Then we had to verify if the student seeking the stipend is actually a ward of a PAP or not.

However it was too time consuming," he said During the 2012-13 academic year, there was a delay in releasing the stipend amount. This was brought to the notice of CIDCO that decided to provide immediate help to students this year.
"We are now in the process of creating a data base of children belonging to the PAP families. Once it is ready, we'll set up a camp to open their bank account," he added.u00a0
