Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya launches dance academy in Pune
After setting up dance academies in Kolkata, Surat and Udaipur, Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya has decided to open a new branch in Pune. The academy's main focus will be on teaching Bollywood-style dancing. We spoke to Ganesh, who is busy organising a dance workshop prior to enrollments, just so he can gauge "the mood ofu00a0 the city".
We will be specialising in teaching signature Bollywood dance steps,u00a0 though we plan to also teach other dance forms like Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Jazz, Rock 'n' Roll, Hip Hop and free style.
Who can enroll for the courses?
Anyone in the age group from 5 to 100 is welcome. I look for qualities like willingness to learn and the ability to work hard in a dancer. I also like a student who is always smiling, because that just makes the dancing look even more graceful.
Will your students get a chance to dance in the films you choreograph for?
Definitely. The students from my academies in Kolkata and Surat danced in the last few movies, for which I choreographed. However, the aim of the academy is not to look for dancers for my team.
I believe that dancing is vital to making it big in Bollywood. If not actors, they can become choreographers or character artists. Dancing also improves one's overall personality.u00a0u00a0u00a0
