Seems like the city's traffic police is getting serious about its Facebook initiative. They are, in collaboration with Janvani, an NGO, developing a software to manage complaints and suggestions made by citizens on Facebook.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic Manoj Patil told MiD DAY that the organisation, in collaboration with NGO Janvani, is developing a software to manage complaints and suggestions made by citizens on Facebook.

"Often, several complaints and criticisms go ignored. Otherwise the entire purpose of this social networking initiative will be defeated. We will try and ensure that all complaints are acted upon," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic Manoj Patil.

The Facebook page that was started last November has seen hectic activity over the past two months with people posting several complaints ranging from harassing policemen to traffic trouble spots in the city. "The experimental stage is now ending and we want to take it forward. The police sometimes cannot reach everywhere at all times. So if this platform expands, people can expect much better policing and faster redressal to their grievances. We don't have professional staff of engineers or software professionals to monitor this page. But we are still trying to reach out to as many citizens as possible by acting upon maximum number of complaints", he said.

The page has also seen several complaints against police officers regarding issues like harassment and inaction. "I will definitely take action against such officers by following protocols. Acting on the basis of a complaint on a web page would violate the organisation's personnel norms. But, if a complaint appears very serious in nature, action would obviously be expedient", Patil said.
